Border vary greatly from country to country. In some countries it takes few
minutes to cross the border but others might take hours. Your passport and documents may
get checked half a dozen times as you proceed from officer to officer. All borders,
no matter how relaxed or strict, deserve your cooperation's. Here's some tips may help you
to cross the border:
- You must need your passport to cross any
border. Don't bother to leave home without it. Keep your passport with your at
all the time while you are in a foreign country.
- Another major requirement crossing border is a valid visa.
You do need permission (visa) from the destination country in advance. Some country
allow you to obtain your visa at the port of entry.
- Be aware of charges or fees at the time border crossing location. You
can avoid those fees if you obtain necessary documentation in advance. These
charges can be as high as $100. Some time if you have to stay over due to your
airlines travel arrangements, you may have to obtain a visa
at the airport in order for you to stay in a hotel (if outside the airport) of your
choice. In addition if you would like to stay some extra days in between your
destination country, make sure you do take necessary steps to avoid timely process at the
airport.
- Do not accept any package or items from anyone you don't know. Make
sure that you know exactly what you are carrying. Be aware of new friends and people
you just meet.
- Many border will check your baggage very thoroughly. Make sure you
don't have any banned item when going across any border. The penalty and punishment of
carrying illegal item such as drugs is very severe. Also be aware of the rules and
regulation on customs, tax and restricted items lists.
- Cooperate with border official at all time. If you have all your valid
documentation, you should receive a very good treatment from the official. Follow
their instructions, he has the right to detain you all day with a very small reasonable
cause. So be very cooperative.
