After some thought and
tinkering with the printer, the purpose and usage of the HP 9100C became
clearer. Even in today's proliferate electronic age, we are still very paper
dependant.
Everyday, "hard
copies" arrive in our in tray. If you wanted to send it to someone, you
could fax it to him or her. But what if he/she doesn't have a fax machine?
You could email it to him/her but that would involve scanning the document
first, then sizing it down to a palatable size before emailing it out. What
if you don't own a scanner?
With the HP 9100C, you could
feed the document into the printer, press the "email button", fill
up his or her email address and off it goes to his/her email box as a pdf
attachment.
Priced at US$6,496 (list
price), the HP 9100C is unaffordable for the home user but businesses may
find this multi-functional device of value.
There are not many out there
who would think of using printers to send email, yet HP launched the HP
9100C Digital Sender to do just that.
At first, there didn't seem
to be any compelling reason for the new technology. Afterall, who
would want to stand at the printer to send email? A ludicrous proposition.
