Q:
My
wife is caring for 8 weeks. It is to be noted that 8 months
before she miscarried and that is why she is taking
Duphaston(Dydrogesterone-10mg)twice daily as per Doctors
advice. She is also taking metoclopramide(premosen)to avoided
vomiting. Now she is suffering from backpain, chestpain, lower
abdominal pain, indigestion, nausia,vomiting,diziness and
loss of appetite. Would you please tell me whether these
complications are due to pregnancy or side effects of those
drugs? Are these drugs safe for pregnant women? Another
thing is that my wife was a patient of rheumatic fever in
her childhood and she took penicillin injection(12 lac
I.U)for 8 years(Upto 17 years of age).She is now 21 years of
age. Now what is your suggestions regarding all these
maters?
A: The symptoms of vomiting nausea are combination of
pregnancy and medication. It is ok to take this medications
during pregnancy. At this time she does not need anything
additional to be done for the history of rheumatic fever as
long as her heart is fine i.e. she does not have a heart
murmur.
Q.I
have pain at my knees and got gnosis :GONARTROS DXT. I am 70
years old, no history of medical complication, normal
BP,sugar and heart condition. My question is :a.What kind of
operation is possible? b. What should be the approximate
costs of such kind of surgery in the USA? Do you have any
other advices?
A: You could undergo knee replacement. The
approximate cost of this is 15,000 --20,000 dollars.
Q: My
husband has been unable to control his blood sugar level. He
is now ranging in the 400-500 area despite the addition of
regular insulin to the previous 70/30 doses. His doctor
believes he is becoming insulin resistant, but as he is also
in renal failure (10-15 percent kidney function remaining),
he is reluctant to add more drugs to his system. He is OK
with trying to find herbal remedies that are metabolized by
the liver rather than the kidneys. Would bitter melon be
helpful in this case?
A: As renal failure progresses usually the insulin
requirement decreases I recommend that to go to your doctor
and stop the 70/30 completely and start on the dose of nph
and regular insulin adjusted for your weight and check your
sugars daily at before breakfast before lunch and before
dinner and at bedtime and to keep a record of it and show it
to your doctor so he knows which to increase to adjust your
sugars .if this does not control it then to take help of a
diabetalogist. herbal remedies that work on the liver and
not on the kidney at this stage where the kidney function is
so much damaged is not going to change much. also it is very
important to have an adequate diet with low protein low
sugars and low cholesterol.
Q: I
have been married for last 3 years. We have a 1 year old
child. For some reason our (me and my wife's) intimate
relationship is very poor. Mainly because of my wife. She
basically avoid me sexually. According to her she does not
have any sexual feelings. What's wrong with her?
A: It could be a number of reasons Mainly
Psychological and I would recommend that you talk to her
about it to see what is that WHICH IS Bothering HER, try
buying her some flowers, try remembering some important
dates like birthday, anniversary and give her gifts on that
DAY also see if she needs any medical check up to see if all
her hormones especially thyroid is functioning well. If all
this is not effective try to see a counselor/therapist .
Q: I have dark circles under my eyes that I'm told
can be caused by sinus problems, which I have. Is there
anything that actually works to get rid of these dark
circles? I have not been able to find an effective treatment
for my sinusitis.
A: The options to treat sinusitis can be 1)
medications like claritin, allegra, Nasal steroid spray like
flonase, vancenase if the cause is allergies some times
allergy testing helps. 2) If medications don't help and
sinuses are worse, operation of the sinuses help.
