Life is full of scrapes, cuts and
punctures. Cuts can bleed heavily. Puncture woulnds
may not bleed much, unless they rupture major vessels or organs,
but they can get infected.
What
to do::
Call for Emergency
medical advice if a wound is deeper than one-quarter inch wound
and longer than 1 inch. If severe bleeding please go to
emergency room right away.
Head
Wound:
If the injury is more
than a minor bump or surface cut, see a doctor right away.
Do not move the person unless you absolutely must; this can cause
further injury.
If the head wound is
bleeding but not deep, cover the wound with a clean bandage or
cloth. Press directly on the wound. If a cloth becomes
soaked with blood, dont't remove it. Put another cloth on
the top of it, and keep pressing.
Put a cold compress
over the wound to ease pain and swelling.
Keep the person calm
and still until medical help arrives.
Eye
or eyelid cut:
Cover the eyes lightly
with bandages; don't apply direct pressure to a bleeding eye.
Call a doctor for an
emergency appointment. If you don't get one, visit nearest emergency
immediately.
Minor
Bleeding, a puncture wound, or a scrape
Clean
the wound with soap and water. Cover the wound with a
bandage to stop the bleeding and prevent infection. If you
are using an elastic bandage, be sure its not so tight that it cut
off internal blood flow.
For
deep puncture wounds, call your doctor for emergency advice.
Watch
sign for signs of infection: redness, pus, swelling, pain, and
fever. If infected, call your doctor for advice.
